1 Chronicles 4:9-10
Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
As i studied through the bible character Jabez…i kept on asking questions, what kind of situation will cause a mother to completely destroy the future of a little boy whose fault, it was not, for coming into this world?
Giving him a name knowing that names mostly defines the future of a person.
Could it be because of the pain she was going through at that moment? Or She was hoping the little baby will seek a greater Being who could alter the havoc caused.
Maybe she had no love for the boy and did not care about anything that could happen to him, could that be it?
Well, i will leave this for my dear readers to ponder over it.
Battles come in various forms, it could be spiritual, physical, emotional, psychological…
and battles are brought about by our personal actions and through others (family, friends and enemies).
So today we are looking at Jabez and the battle brought upon him by his mother, and how he was able to move pass it gloriously.
This guy’s battle was a serious one, to be given the name pain?
How are you supposed to even smile? I am sure that would even hurt.
Most of us are born with certain disorders and sometimes society moulds us into something we are not but we do accept that and remain mediocre in all we do. Other times we are rendered ‘useless’ even though we were made in the image and likeness of God.
Jabez could have crossed his fingers and watch things go against him but he chose to focus on Someone Greater.
He chose to delight himself in the Lord, and by seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness God granted unto him his prayer request.
He refused to accept his condition so he prayed that God should lift it off him and help him not to cause pain to others as it was done to him.
steps to dealing with your battles
1. focusing on the solution which is God.
2. Cry out to God through fervent prayers; keep praying even if you are not seeing results.
3. Your actions must correspond to your prayers; do not pray about a thing whiles your thoughts and actions says another.
4.have faith in God and relax(patience) for Him to turn things around.
Jabez defied his hopeless name and dysfunctional beginning to become a man who believed fervently in the power of God. He prayed fervently with urgency and vulnerability. He cried out to the lord with boldness and obtained mercy in his time of need!
Jabez was honored because of his relationship with God but let’s take not of the scripture below…
Romans 9:15
For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”
May God help us all.

A good story Pap. We do need to go to Jesus as our problem solver. In fact we are told to pray to Him in all circumstances. We are always better off when we include the Lord in all aspects of our lives…
