Fearing God

img_7389
We fear many bad things: Crime, car accidents, devastating storms, viruses, chemical weapons, mass murderers, terrorists, earthquakes, demons and Satan himself!
But fearing God is having dominion over these things! Because God is bigger than every storm in our life.

Fearing God does not mean hiding from Him, or running away from His presence.
It is only wicked and cruel people that we run away from but our God is nothing close to that!
He is not unjust.
Whatever He does is perfect and in the right direction but because humans always want things to be done in the natural (our way) even when we are wrong, we tend to dislike anyone stepping in their way.
Fearing God is a positive rather than negative thing. It saves us from caving into our own sinful desires.

Anyone who does not fear God is rebellious.
Proverbs 8:13
To fear the Lord is to hate evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech.

Fearing God saves us from caving into our own sinful desires like ungodly relationships, doing drugs, adultery, idolatry, arrogance, pride, alcoholism, homosexuality, fornication…
It saves us from our very selves because most often, these perverse acts leads to destruction.

God wants His children to fear Him, that is give reverence(respect) to Him for who He is. It helps us to take Him and His beneficial laws seriously.
Inasmuch as fearing Has negative implications but that is a healthy fear, He always wants us near because that keeps us in check and prevents us from crossing the line of good over to evil.

We must fear God for He is capable of anything when we fail to obey( to every action there is a reaction).
His wrath is dreadful and no one can stand but that does not render Him unjust and unloving, His love is to the extreme and His wrath also is.
Is it not wise to fear God?

Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Let us all remember that there is a place we must go after life on earth, what will be the significance of the life we are living here if it will not send us into that better place where no evil will be?

Ecclesiastes 12:1
Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come…

A time will come when you as a youth will not have the strength like you do now, so use your might now to serve God before you are rendered handicapped by life and can do nothing for Him.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says…

Prayer
Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for today and the gift of life given me, i am grateful for your love and mercies towards me.
Father please forgive me of all errors committed against you, and wash me that i may be clean.
Father lay hold of my heart and heal my unbelief, help me live a life that will please you. Close the door behind me that leads me constantly to the world and open the one ahead of me that leads me into your very presence.
I desire to do your will but i am weak, today i acknowledge that you are my strength and i can do nothing without you and so help me father, help me overcome this hurdle ahead daily as i draw closer to you.
Thank you for making your ears attent unto my prayer in Jesus name have i prayed, Amen.

Pap, in the case where “fearing” God is used, the main Hebrew and Greek text translates into loving and respecting Him. For example, to “Fear God and keep His commandments,” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14), means to do as God wills out of our love and respect for Him…

A very nice prayer at the end of your post!

Yes, so many people treat God like a friend and although he is our friend, he is still God and we should have deep reverence for Him. Amen.

Fearing God this year has also meant remembering that He is the Lion and the Lamb. We don’t focus on the Lion enough- the one who deals with wickedness and stands for truth.

Good piece!! We are to fear as reverence like you said not to live in fear..or be afraid of God, but that fear leads us to worship, love and obey his word.

  15. Fearing God (alone) isn’t what saves us. Obedience is not the main thing I think God wants from us. He wants a relationship! Relationships are messy, especially when imperfect people are a part of it. I fear my wife, but if I place that fear ahead of the relationship, what good does it do?

For us, fearing God brings us closer to Him. But fearing God so much a command, but a wise suggestion because for others, telling them to Fear the Lord will only drive them further from Him. I’m with Steve, loving and respecting God is more applicable to our lives today.
