Today’s Fragrance : The Sword of the Spirit

on

“And take … the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).
God bless you for coming back to equip yourself with God’s word. If you’ve been following, then you’d know that we’ve been studying the full armor of God, the Christian’s defense system against the enemy.
Moving on…

The first five elements of the Christian armor are defensive pieces. Armament the Christian can use to defend against spiritual attacks.
But this very piece we are about to tackle doubles as a defensive and offensive weapon. I’m talking about the Sword of the Spirit which is also the word of God.

Wondering why an offensive weapon would be listed with the other pieces of armor? And What use should a Christian make of it?
From our previous study, we know there is an ongoing war and the battlefield is the mind!
The apostle Paul used a military analogy when he talked about the Christian fight. He described thoughts and attitudes that we must defeat, just as a soldier would use his weapons to defeat the enemy.
Yes we have a powerful weapon!! One that is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

But really, what good is a sword if you can’t use it? You might even end up hurting yourself in an attempt to use it against the enemy.
For this reason Christians must train themselves and be as skilled in the use of the word of God (sword of the spirit) as a swordsman is with his sword.

As The author of Hebrews rightly puts it, that we must become gradually more knowledgeable and skilled in the Word of God, until we are able to use it to discern good from evil.

The more you use this weapon, you become familiar with it, gain more experience, And you learn more ,

We must get to the point where our spiritual senses gets sharpened by it. That way we can make full use of this piece of armament God has given us!

The desire to become knowledgeable in God’s Word (skilled in the use of the sword) has to come from within. If you see how valuable it is, you would desire to have a high level of skill.

There is a word we need from the word of God that will help us take down the enemy, at a particular time and without getting into the word we wouldn’t have access to that word.
Day and night we must train ourselves in His word, make it become a part of us so that when the time comes we will be fully ready to strike!

Don’t be caught unaware or off guard, get into the word and stay there!

Blessings…

I’ve been thinking about the application of donning the full armor of God. Thanks for doing this series.
