When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing…” (Luke 5:4-5)
Jesus being who He is, knew Peter’s struggles, He knew he had worked all night but had nothing tangible as reward for all his hardwork. He knew he was a skilled, experienced and hardworking fisherman.
But also Jesus knew human timings and way of working but as the good book records, the ways of God are not that of men.
You see, God will ask you to do things that defy normal human ways like casting your net in the heat of the day to catch fish. Things that would not yield any results on a normal day!
But if you cease the moment and dare to believe, by acting on His Word Man, your in for a plentiful catch!
Peter did not realize that the man who stood in front of him was not influenced by circumstances, he did not know that Jesus owned and influenced circumstances. He did not know the authority that man Jesus had! So first he gave a reason why what Jesus was asking of him looked impossible to bring about favorable results. Perhaps he thought, “this guy Jesus must be kidding to ask me to launch out in the day!”
“Lord you know nothing about fishing. Daytime is the wrong time to fish” I’m pretty sure these thoughts run through the mind of Peter. But finally he gave in to the words of Jesus and said nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:5)
What happened after his obedience? Peter filled one ship and another, and saw the ship sinking! He and all that were with Him were astonished at the number of fish they had caught.
How many of us are still behaving this way? How many of us believers are still “doing common sense calculation” when the One who owns the earth and its fullness, the world and all that dwells therein gives a word unto us that simply requires our obedience?
We have a Word that is spirit, life, active and powerful!! That’s the word of God.
Jesus, The Word says “come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)
Will you respond to this word by obeying or your gonna keep placing your struggles, failures and circumstances ahead of Jesus(The Word) constantly looking at them instead of looking at Him?
Need I remind you that those who look to the Lord are not ashamed but rather their faces are radiant? (Psalms 34:5)
To see Jesus is to see a new way, to see all things differently. It means new life and new plans. And as we gaze at Him, we are satisfied for He always exceeds our expectations and even our imaginations.
Today Let us reach out in obedience to His Word. He has all we need and amazingly, He bids us come!
He will fulfil the desires of our hearts, granting all our petitions, when we respond to His call by Obeying His Word.
